    Laowa Aksen 1-5X & 5-10X Ultra Macro APO

    The Laowa Aksen series (1–5X & 5–10X) redefines high-magnification macro by eliminating the limitations of traditional lenses.

    Its groundbreaking parfocal zoom means the focus on the subject remains locked even as you change magnification. Powered by an internal zoom mechanism, the Aksen series has a fixed working distance, meaning you can fluidly scale your shot without needing to reposition your camera or disrupt the lighting setup.

    With APO design optics, the Aksen series eliminates colour fringing to deliver flawless, ultra-sharp detail at any magnification level.

    LENS VERSIONS
    You can choose between the 1X-50X lens version or the 5X-10X lens version.  There is also an option for a bundle of both lenses at a discounted price.

    COAXIAL ILLUMINATION
    The coaxial illuminator is a method of projecting a light through the lens directly onto the subject.  It is not suitable for some subjects, so other illumination is recommended - see our  illumination section.
    Coaxial illumination is only available on the 5X-10X lens and must be ordered with the lens.

    please note: 
    Coaxial light is just one technique, it is common in microscopy but not photography and has limited uses — it is not the only solution for every shot.

    • It works great on flat, shiny surfaces.  It was designed for looking at polished, perfectly flat metallurgical or geological specimens.  If the light does not reflect perfectly up into the lens it will not work well, normal side or underneath lighting techniques are required depending on the transparency of the subject
    • It does not work well on every object.
    • It's not a torch, it does not work like a normal lamp

    Unlike its industrial microscopy origins, coaxial lighting is relatively new and experimental as a creative tool for photographers. We would suggest exploring mixed lighting, stacking, or unconventional angles — such as using subjects that are blocked from side-angled light.
    ● Flat surface, but emphasis edges
    ● Makes reflective surfaces "pop"
    ● Reveal hidden color and texture
    ● Eliminates unwanted shadows

    Other vendors of the coaxial illumination option do NOT include the LED light option, please note that this item is included in our option price.

The stage can be used to mount a specimen/specimen holder, the ideal manual system for positioning and gathering a stack of images of subjects at high magnification.  Using it to mount a specimen using the supplied rotatable crocodile clip is its most common usage.  It has 20 mm of vertical travel, the height being controlled by turning a fine micrometer knob with an additional knob which can be tightened to lock the position.  Also there are similar knobs to control the X and Y movement of up to 25mm in each axis.  The movements have graduated scales on the micrometer knobs so you can make extremely precise interval movements.
